On Point Star Blocks

There are three very common star blocks with different methods to make each of them. There is the Ohio Star:

Also the Sawtooth Star:

And finally the Lemoyne Star:

Not only can you make the actual star in different ways, but you can also add on to the stars. The usual method of separating blocks is using sashing. This is a diagram of a simple Ohio Star quilt with sashing:

Now, if you set an Ohio Star on point, you change the look of the star and you have more white space on the block, making sashing less necessary:

It looks like a Sawtooth Star with a square in a square for the middle! Now set a Sawtooth Star on point, and it looks a lot like an Ohio Star:

My favorite is the Lemoyne Star:

It's amazing how you can take some basic stars and create something new. With the choice of different blocks, sashing or no sashing, borders or no borders, or setting some blocks on point, the quilt possibilities are endless!
