Assembly
Step 1. Make the nine patch blocks. Referring to the next 4 photos, sew together 5 - 1 1/2" color fabric squares and 4 - 1 1/2" white fabric squares per nine patch block. Make a total of 18 nine patch blocks.
Step 2. Using the previous sewing method, make 2 more nine patch blocks using 4 - 1 1/2" color fabric squares and 5 - 1 1/2" white fabric squares.
Step 3. Make the center for quilt block. Referring to the next 3 photos, sew together the two 4 color fabric/5 white fabric nine patch blocks and two 5 color fabric/4 white fabric nine patch blocks.
Step 4. Sew 2 - 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" white fabric pieces onto the sides of the quilt block center. I pieced together my 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" pieces from 2 - 3 1/2" squares.
Step 5. Sew 2 nine patch blocks onto the sides of each of the remaining 3 1/2" x 6 1/2" pieces. Then, sew these pieces onto the top and bottom of the quilt block center.
Step 6. Make the top and bottom borders. Sew together 4 nine patch blocks and 3 - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" white fabric pieces per side border. See the next 2 photos.
Step 7. Make the side borders. Sew together 2 nine patch blocks and 3 - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" white fabric pieces per side border. Refer to the next photo.
Step 8. Assemble the block. Sew the side borders onto the block, then sew on the top and bottom border.
