Cutting Instructions

Red Fabric
  • 2 - 1 5/8" squares
  • 4 - 3 1/8" squares

Blue Fabric
  • 1 - 1 5/8" x 13" strip
  • 4 - 1 5/8" squares

White Fabric
  • 1 - 1 5/8" x 13" strip
  • 4 - 1 5/8" x 2 3/4" rectangles
  • 1 - 5 3/4" square

    *Note: Always press to the color fabric unless otherwise noted.

    **Note: Half squares triangles (HST) allow plenty of room for trimming. To make HSTs with some trimming space, reduce square size by 1/4". To make HSTs without trimming space, reduce square size by 1/2".

    Step 1.  Make the flying geese blocks for the star points. Use the 3 1/8" red fabric squares and the 5 3/4" white fabric square. Lay 2 red fabric squares on the white fabric square right sides together. Mark a line along the squares, then sew 1/4" away from both sides of the line.




    Cut along the line, then press back the squares.



    Lay the remaining 2 red fabric square on the white fabric square pieces right sides together. mark a line on each square, then sew 1/4" away from both sides of each line.



    Cut along the lines, then press back the squares.



    Step 2. Make the four patch squares. Sew together the 1 5/8" x 13" fabric strips. Cut the strips apart into 8 - 1 5/8" wide segments.




    Sew the segments together in pars to make 4 squares.



    Step 3. Make the center of the star. Referring to the next 5 photos, sew together the 1 5/8" blue and red fabric squares and the 1 5/8" x 2 3/4" white fabric rectangles. Pressing: Press to the blue fabric squares.






    Step 4. Referring to the next 4 photos, sew together the previously constructed pieces to assemble the block. Pressing: Press to the star points.
