Tulip Quilt Block Tutorial

This simple daffodil quilt block is fun to make. The finished block measures 9" square. I'd like to make this block in bold reds, purples, and yellows to make a tulip quilt!

Cutting instructions

White fabric:

• 1 - 2 3/4" x 5" rectangle
• 1 - 2 3/4" x 7 1/4" rectangle
• 2 - 2 3/4" squares
• 2 - 7 1/8" squares cut into 4 right triangles

Pale yellow:

• 1 - 2 3/4" x 9 1/2"
• 1 - 2 3/4" x 7 1/4"

Dark yellow:

• 1 - 5" square

Lay the 2 3/4" squares on each of the pale yellow rectangles right sides together. Mark a diagonal line on each of the squares, then sew along the line. Trim excess fabric and press back the triangles.

Sew the 2 3/4" x 5" white rectangle onto the 5" square.

Sew on the 2 3/4" x 7 1/4" white rectangle.

Sew on the pale yellow rectangles.

Take the 7 1/8" squares that you cut into triangles.

Sew onto the tulip along the big sides of the triangles. The corners of the triangles will go 1/4" past the tulip on each side. This is so that when you sew using 1/4" seam allowance, the triangles will end perfectly on the edge of the block.
