9" Quilt Block Tutorial #2


Cutting Instructions

Red fabric
  • 4 - 2 3/4" squares

Blue fabric
  • 1 - 5 3/4" square

White fabric
  • 4 - 3 1/8" squares
  • 4 - 2 3/4" squares
Assembly Instructions

*Note: Always press to the dark fabric unless otherwise noted.

Step 1: Using the 4 - 3 1/8" white fabric squares and the 1 - 5 3/4" color fabric square, make the flying geese blocks. Referring to the next 4 photos, lay 2 - 3 1/8" squares on the 5 3/4" square right sides together. Mark a diagonal line along the squares, then sew 1/4" away from both sides of the line.





Cut along the line, then press back the squares. See the next two photos.



Lay the remaining 2 - 3 1/8" squares on the 5 3/4" square pieces. Mark a diagonal line along each of the squares, then sew 1/4" away from both sides of each line. Refer to the next two photos.



Cut along each line, then press back the squares. You will have 4 flying geese blocks. The method used is a no waste flying geese block method. Read more about this method here.



Step 2: Assemble the block. According to the next 7 photos, sew together the flying geese blocks, 4 - 2 3/4" red squares, and the 4 - 2 3/4" white fabric squares. Always press to the red squares and the flying geese blocks.
