Step 1: Make the flying geese blocks. Use the 10 1/4" square and the 4 - 5 3/8" squares.

Lay 2 of the 5 3/8" squares on the 10 1/4" square right sides together. Mark a diagonal line along the squares, then sew 1/4" away from both sides of the line.

Cut along the line, then press back the squares.

Lay the remaining 2 - 5 3/8" squares on the white 10 1/4" square pieces right sides together. Mark a diagonal line along each square, then sew 1/4" away from both sides of the line.

Cut along the lines, then press back the squares.

This is a no waste flying geese block method. You can read more about this method here.

Step 2: Make the 9" log cabin block. Use all of the 1 1/2" wide pieces. To begin, sew the 1 1/2" color fabric square to the top of the 1 1/2" white fabric square.

Sew on the 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" color fabric strip.

Sew on the 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" color fabric strip.

Next, the 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" color fabric strip.

Then the 1 1/2" x 6 1/2" white fabric strip.
