Assembly
Step 1: Make the large half square triangles (HST). Use the 5 7/8" squares. Lay a white 5 7/8" square on a color fabric 5 7/8" square right sides together. Mark a diagonal line along the squares, then sew 1/4" from both sides of the line.
Cut along the line, then press open and trim each HST to measure 5" square.
Repeat with the remaining 3 pairs of 5 7/8" squares to make a total of 8 HSTs
Step 2: Arrange 4 of the HSTs in a pinwheel pattern. Sew together to make a pinwheel, pressing the the dark fabric. Refer to the next 3 photos.
Repeat with the remaining 4 HSTs to make a second pinwheel.
Step 3: Using the previous sewing methods, make 8 HSTs from the 3 5/8" squares. Sew these HSTs together into 2 pinwheels.
Step 4: Sew together 4 of the 2 3/4" color fabric squares to make 4 nine patch blocks. Refer to the next 4 photos.
Make 2 more nine patch blocks using 2 - 2 3/4" color fabrics squares and 2 - 2 3/4" white fabric squares per nine patch.
Step 5: Sew together 1 pinwheel, 2 color fabric nine patch blocks, and 1 white/color fabric nine patch block. See the next 3 photos.
Repeat with the remaining pinwheel and nine patch blocks.
Step 6: Assemble the block. Sew together the 2 large pinwheels and the other 2 pieces. Press away from the pinwheels.
