- 4 - 2" x 8" strips

- 8 - 4 3/8" squares
White Fabric
- 2 - 2" x 9 1/2"
- 4 - 2" x 8"
- 2 - 2" x 6 1/2"
- 8 - 4 3/8"
*Note: Always press to the color fabric unless otherwise noted.
**Note: Half squares triangles (HST) allow plenty of room for trimming. To make HSTs with some trimming space, reduce square size by 1/4". To make HSTs without trimming space, reduce square size by 1/2".
Step 1: Make the 16 half square triangles (HST). Use the 4 3/8" squares. Lay a white 4 3/8" square on a color fabric 4 3/8" square right sides together. Mark a diagonal line along the squares, then sew 1/4" from both sides of the line.
Cut along the line, then press open and trim to measure 3 1/2" square. Repeat to make a total of 16 HSTs.
Step 2: Make the pinwheels. Referring to the next 2 photos, sew together 4 HSTs per pinwheel. Make a total of 4 pinwheels.
Step 3: Sew 1 of the 2" x 6 1/2" white fabric strips onto 2 of the pinwheels. Onto the other 2 pinwheels, sew 1 of the 2" x 6 1/2" color fabric strips.
Next, sew white 2" x 8" white fabric strips onto the pinwheels with white fabric, and the color fabric strips onto the pinwheels with color fabric.
Sew 2 - 2" x 8" color fabric strips onto the pinwheels with white fabric, and 2 - 2" x 8" white fabric strips onto the pinwheels with white fabric.
Finally, sew the 2" x 9 1/2" color fabric strips onto the pinwheels that started with just white fabric, and the 2" x 9 1/2" white fabric strips onto the pinwheels that started with just color fabric.
Step 4: Assemble the block. Referring to the last 3 photos, sew together the 4 pinwheels.
