No Measuring Baby Quilt: Update

I have made two more baby quilts using this method, and I plan on making a twin size quilt this way out of blue and white fabrics. The original post can be found here: No Measuring Baby Quilt
It is so fun to use this method! You just take a bunch of larger scraps, long strips, leftover squares and rectangles, or sometimes even unused quarter yards of fabric cut in half or thirds. Sew them together however you can get them to fit, and cut some a little smaller if you have to. The only hard part is trying to keep the same fabrics from touching. If it does happen that one little edge of fabric is touching another piece of the same fabric, the quilt looks so scrappy and random that it doesn't even matter!

First I tried it with some pastels.

I quilted loops and hearts all over. Some pieces are large, but in some places I had to use thin strips to get the pieces to fit.

The next quilt I used more colors.

I quilted cross hatching on this one. For the first no measuring quilt I didn't pay attention to how many different prints I used, I just grabbed every purple scrap I had. The second quilt only has 4 different fabrics, while the third has 6. You can see how the amounts of different colors and prints can change the look of the quilt. The first used very different prints, but the purples and greens were all mostly the same. The second quilt used all similar prints and very similar pale colors. The third baby quilt had similar prints, yet very different colors, including green, teal, pink, and blue. I love how all of these turned out, and I can't wait to see how the elegant blue and white fabrics will look.

  1. Love the purple and green one, I'll have to look at this design as I've got quite a few scraps!
