Scrap Block #23

What you need:

Color fabric:
  • 4 - 3 5/8" squares
  • 8 - 2 7/8" squares
  • 4 - 3 1/2" x 2" rectangles
  • 4 - 2" squares
White fabric:
  • 4 - 3 5/8" squares
  • 4 - 3 1/2" x 2" rectangles
Make the half square triangles (HST). Lay one 3 5/8" color fabric square on a 3 5/8" white fabric square right sides together. Mark a diagonal line across the squares. Sew 1/4" away from both sides of the line, then cut along the line. Press open and trim to measure 2 7/8" square.

Repeat this for the remaining 3 3/8" squares so that you have 8 HSTs. Lay the 2 7/8" squares on the HSTs right sides together. Mark a line perpendicular to the seam on the HST, then sew 1/4" away from both sides of the line. Cut along the line, press open, and trim to measure 2" square.

Sew together the rectangles in pairs.

Sew together the 4 - 2" squares.

Assemble the block. When you lay out your pieces, you can play with the orientation of the corner squares to change the look of the block.
